BlACK SWAN / ЧЕРНЫЙ ЛЕБЕДЬ
The MishMash project is about balancing between integration and subtraction. A black plane cuts into the studio space, passing directly through the works and creating tension at the point of contact. Formally masquerading as minimalism, it in fact creates and embodies drama and excess. Baroque once emerged in part as a reaction against the Protestant commitment to black. MishMash, who have recently been immersed in Baroque, create a transition within this black surface - from Baroque abundance to a dramatic black chord that affects everything in its path. The authors make this plane excessively complex and time-consuming: first layering papier-mache made from old sketches and papers, then blackening it through a complex, alchemical process. "The black triangle will receive a golden frame; one day it will be able to leave the corner and detach itself from the context, becoming an independent painting on the wall" (Masha Sumnina). Again, imbalance, a complete absence of harmony, the violation and subtraction of all conceivable boundaries, the suppression of the entire studio space - with its charming elements of established artistic everyday life - by a demonic black.
